9/3/2010 12:02:00 PM Protections for tenants in foreclosure By Patrick Casey Lombardo and Gilles
Due to the sharp increase in foreclosures over the past several years, tenants have faced the possibility of eviction by the new property owner. Prior to legislation passed in 2008 and 2009, a new owner of property that was foreclosed upon is not bound by the tenant's lease with the previous foreclosed-upon owner. In that case, the landlord could simply give the tenant a 30-day notice of termination and the tenant would have to vacate the property. If the tenant did not vacate at the end of 30 days, then the new owner could file an unlawful detainer action against the tenant. This situation has changed based upon legislation enacted in 2008 and 2009. Read more...

A business with a familiar taste and smell to Hollister Farmers Market attendees will be holding its annual tasting in Gustine in about a month. Wolfsen's Meat & Sausage, which sells to locals at the Wednesday farmers market in downtown Hollister, is holding the annual sausage tasting from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at the business location, 358 South Ave., Gustine.
For only $5, customers may sample more than 60 kinds of fresh and smoked sausage all made by Wolfsen's. There will be music and other booths to check out. Wolfsen's also offers gift baskets made up of our specialty products with gift cards included.

Residents have a chance to help obtain $25,000 toward renovations at the Granada Theatre downtown.
The Hollister Downtown Association has joined a contest put on by the National Trust for Historic Preservation called the "This Place Matters Challenge." Locals can take part by voting for the Granada Theatre on the organization's website. Read more...

Wiersma is now a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California, according to a press statement from the company.
A professional engineer is capable of designing roads, bridges and other civil improvements.
He is a California native, having grown up in Hollister. He attended Cal Poly State University. John spends his off time roping and riding horses.
